GENERAL SECRETARY

Most. Kamrum Nahar - Bangladesh Progressive Garment Workers Federation (BPGWF)

About Kamrun Nahar

"I am Kamrunnahar. I am the secretary and founder of the Bangladesh Progressive Garment Workers Federation. My work with the garment federation began in 1993. During this long journey, we have addressed all kinds of issues faced by workers throughout Bangladesh, especially in the garment industry, which is the largest industry at the moment. Here, our female and male workers are all exploited and oppressed. Despite setting a minimum wage of 12,000 taka, all garment factories are not abiding by this rule; they are violating it through various complexities. Recently, we have witnessed many tragic incidents, with large buildings collapsing, such as Rana Plaza, where 1,400 workers died, and we have been actively working. Additionally, in 2005, we played a leading role in the movement following the collapse of the Spectrum building.
